3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade Conducts Change of Command Ceremony

CAMP COURTNEY, Okinawa, Japan – Brig. Gen. Ryan M. Hoyle assumed command of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade from Brig. Gen. Robert B. Brodie during a change of command ceremony here Friday.

Brodie, who had commanded the brigade since July 31, 2025, led the forward-deployed headquarters through a period of high operational tempo. During his tenure, the brigade activated and deployed as part of a Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force on short notice to the Philippines for disaster relief operations while maintaining readiness across the Indo-Pacific region. Brodie’s next assignment is as commanding general of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California.

"When I took command last year, I spoke of my commitment to fostering peace and stability in this vital region," Brodie said. "I emphasized that the foundation of this peace is our unwavering partnership with our allies, particularly our hosts here in Japan. I have had the distinct privilege of witnessing this vision become a reality and seeing the relationship between the 3rd MEB, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade advance into an even more lethal and capable force.”

Hoyle arrives from the 1st Marine Division, where he served as the assistant division commander. An infantry officer, Hoyle brings extensive operational, joint and multinational experience to the brigade. His previous assignments include commanding Combined Task Force 61 in Europe, leading a forward-deployed battalion in Okinawa, multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and holding senior operational planning roles within the Marine Corps and NATO.

"To our allies, I look forward to meeting each of you and becoming stronger together," Hoyle said. "To the Marines and sailors of the III MEF team, I am ready to learn and proud to serve alongside you. To the 3rd MEB team, I am excited for where we are going and look forward to winning together."

3rd MEB is a scalable, rapidly deployable Marine Air-Ground Task Force headquartered in Okinawa. As part of the III Marine Expeditionary Force, the brigade is postured to respond to crises throughout the Indo-Pacific, including humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and contingency operations. Its forward deployment and frequent collaboration with allies make it a critical asset for regional stability.
