3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade Stands Up Headquarters Company, Enhancing Lethality
CAMP COURTNEY, Japan – 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade stood up a new headquarters company today, a move that sharpens the unit’s warfighting capabilities as part of its mission to achieve “peace through strength” in the Indo-Pacific region.
The reorganization ensures the brigade is structured to maintain parity with its key allies in the region, especially the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade. The partnership is crucial for deterring aggression and maintaining regional stability.
“This reorganization is a critical evolution in our command structure,” said Brig. Gen. Robert “BAMS” Brodie, commanding general of 3d MEB. “It will enhance our ability to fight and win by centralizing command and synchronizing readiness efforts across our warfighting functions. Put simply, 3d MEB is now structured to own the battlespace, allowing us to better plan and execute complex, multi-domain operations and generate dilemmas for any adversary.”
The company will be commanded by Maj. Codi Mullen. “I specifically chose Major Mullen to be the first company commander because I know she embodies the warfighting spirit and dedication that this role demands,” said Brodie. “Her vision and commitment will be instrumental in the success of this company and the brigade as a whole.”
“Taking command of this new company is a profound responsibility,” said Mullen. “Every Marine and Sailor in this unit is a critical piece of the brigade's warfighting capability. It is my charge to ensure we are trained, equipped, and ready to meet any challenge, upholding the trust placed in us to secure peace and stability in this vital region.”
The new structure strengthens 3d MEB’s capacity to support the III Marine Expeditionary Force and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, bolstering deterrence throughout the region. 3d MEB remains prepared to fight alongside joint, bilateral, and multinational forces throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Its forward-deployed posture and frequent collaboration with allied and partner nations make it a critical asset for regional stability and rapid response.
